Im Jahr 1984 übersiedelte sie mit ihren Eltern, einer Allgemeinärztin und einem Internisten, aus der damaligen DDR nach Bayreuth. Dort besuchte sie die Grundschule und das Gymnasium Christian-Ernestinum, das sie 1999 mit dem Abitur abschloss. Im Anschluss arbeitete sie als Arzthelferin in der elterlichen Praxis in Bayreuth. Von 2001 bis 2007 studierte sie Humanmedizin an der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in München. Im November 2007 beendete sie das Studium mit dem Staatsexamen, im Dezember 2008 wurde sie zum Dr. med. promoviert.

Im Fernsehen ist Theiss so präsent wie wenige andere Sportler. 2009 spielte sie die Rolle der Judith Stein in dem Spielfilm Die Jagd nach der Heiligen Lanze (Regisseur Florian Baxmeyer). Sie ist Patin der Björn-Steiger-Stiftung für das Projekt „Retten macht Schule“.

Am 7. Juli 2008 erhielt sie den Bayerischen Sportpreis in der Kategorie „Hochleistungssport plus“. Sie wurde in den Jahren 2005 bis 2009 insgesamt fünfmal in Folge von den Lesern der Abendzeitung zu „Münchens Sportlerin des Jahres“ gewählt.

Sie ist seit 2005 mit dem Kardiologen Dr. Hans Theiss verheiratet und lebt in München. In ihrer Freizeit arbeitet sie ehrenamtlich in der Rettungshundestaffel des Münchner Arbeitersamariterbundes. Hier bildet sie ihre Boxerhündin Tiffany zum Suchhund (Mantrailer) aus.

Elena Viatcheslavovna Dementieva (Russian: Елена Вячеславовна Дементьева, Russian pronunciation: [jɪˈlʲenə dʲɪˈmʲentʲjɪvə]; born 15 October 1981) is a Russian professional tennis player. She has won two Olympic medals in singles, including the gold medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. She has also reached the finals of the 2004 French Open and 2004 US Open. Her career high ranking was World No. 3 which she achieved on April 6, 2009. As of 5 July 2010, her ranking is World No. 6, making her the current Russian No.1.

Dementieva is the most successful Russian Fed Cup player. As of 29 April 2007, she is 19–5 in singles and 3–3 in doubles. Her record includes singles victories over Venus Williams (her first win over a top 10 player), Mary Pierce, Amélie Mauresmo, and Kim Clijsters.

In 2005, Dementieva arguably single-handedly led Russia to capture the Fed Cup by beating France 3–2 in the final. All three points came from Dementieva, as she beat Mary Pierce and Amélie Mauresmo in 2 single matches, and then won the deciding doubles match with partner Dinara Safina.

Ana Ivanović (Serbian Cyrillic: Ана Ивановић) (born November 6, 1987, in Belgrade, SR Serbia, Yugoslavia) is a former World No.1 Serbian tennis player. As of June 28, 2010, she is ranked World No. 64 by the WTA rankings. She won the 2008 French Open and was the runner-up in singles at the 2007 French Open and the 2008 Australian Open.

Ivanović’s mother Dragana, who is a lawyer, attends all of her daughter’s matches. Her father, Miroslav, a self-employed businessman, attends as many events as he possibly can. Ana has a younger brother, Miloš, with whom she loves to play basketball. She chooses not to have a permanent coach.[6] Aside from her tennis career, Ivanović also studies finance at a university in Belgrade and Spanish in her spare time.[6] Her inspiration to begin playing was Monica Seles.

On September 8, 2007, Ivanović became a UNICEF National Ambassador for Serbia, alongside Aleksandar Đorđević, Jelena Janković and Emir Kusturica. She takes a special interest in the fields of education and child protection. Ivanović visited a primary school in Serbia during her inauguration and said: “I’m also looking forward to going into the classroom and meeting many kids.”

Ivanović confirmed in November 2008 that she was romantically involved with Spanish tennis player Fernando Verdasco; however, it was reported that the relationship ended in January 2009. Some of her best friends include close childhood family friend Novak Djokovic, whom she has known since she was 5 years old, and current world number 1 Rafael Nadal. She admires former No.1 tennis player Roger Federer.
